In Valentino at the Met Ball.

Tweens. They are so much cooler now than when I was a 14 year old and the coolest one of all is tween queen Elle Fanning. She sits front row at fashion shows (with Anna Wintour, no less), hangs out with Uncle Karl, works with the likes of supreme cool girl Sofia Coppola and is besties with the Rodarte sisters.

Don’t they look happy?

Walking the red carpet in Valentino, Marc Jacobs, and Marchesa, the actress and ballerina, could teach the 30, 40 and 50 year old set a thing or two about style. With a mutual love of vintage, she considers Alexa Chung a style icon, Marilyn Monroe her favorite actress, and the 50s her favorite era to stock up on.

This explains her love of full skirts, textured fabrics and all around romantic and girly style. A Betty Draper in training, perhaps?  Either way, she is always one to watch and I’m not afraid to admit I’ve added this 14 year old to my girl-crush list.

I can’t wait to see what’s in store as the tween matures, and, OMG… what she’s going to wear to prom. —Christie

I love cut-offs. I’ll just say it. They go with everything, always look effortless (a la Kate Moss, above), and are just so damn comfy. They can take you from day to night with the slip of a heel and look classic with a simple white shirt. They’re sexy, perfect for the beach or your favorite outdoor music festival and the best part is—you can usually make them yourself with an old pair of worn in jeans! —Christie

Here’s how some of our favorite fashionistas wear this timeless staple:

Chloë Sevigny, Erin Wasson and Nicole Richie

Alexa Chung and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
